We've gotten requests for a packlist for our first-timers. It's important that you have some necessities individually or collectively, and what those are changes based on if you're in an RV or a tent.
The campgrounds have potable water...on the main road of the campground. There are no water taps in the campsites themselves - nor is there electricity. Make sure you have what you need to stay hydrated, warm, fed, and charged. While we're providing some water, it's not meant to keep you hydrated all weekend.
Water. Or water containers to fill at the water taps up front.
Toilet Paper. There are porta-potties in the campground, remember 1-ply ONLY in RVs!!!
Snacks and meals as appropriate, you'll get hungry outside the provided meals and eating in the festival.
Weather appropriate clothing It can be warm during the day and very chilly at night, check the forecast! We will have fires, and covered spaces, so don't let some rain in the forecast scare you off - but do be prepared.
Weather appropriate bedding (don't skimp on this, again, it can get very chilly, and there are only so many bears to go around!)
Toiletries. TRF has their shower at the front of the campground, for a fee.
Towels.
Renfest Outfit. Hardly required, but have fun! Just don't get barred from entry by TRF for being *too* showy.
Comfortable Shoes. You're going to be doing a lot of walking. It may be muddy. You don't want to track mud into your RV/Tent. Plan accordingly!
Camp Chair. While I'm sure some laps will be available, most camp chairs won't support two people (for long). Make sure you label your chair!
Trash Bags. Clean up your crap! There are dumpsters onsite.
Broom or Vacuum. Keep your tent/RV clean(ish) so cleanup when you leave is that much easier.
Medications. Do you have allergies? Come armed with sinus meds. Any other conditions? Be prepared. We will have a first aid kit with us, but we can't be handing out Mucinex and Imodium to everyone.
Play items. We might be stocking the activities tent with more than just equipment (more equipment this year!) but the 'selection' will be limited. If you have preferences, bring your own!
Obviously most of the above needs to be per person - while others can be per tent/RV.
If you own an RV you're bringing, you don't need me telling you what to bring. But for those of us renting or borrowing an RV, there are some basics you'll want. Make sure you ask the RV provider what's included so you'll be prepared.
RV toilet paper (1-ply only!!). You do *not* want to clog up your black tank. No wipes either! A travel bidet is a lifesaver!
Don't douche in the shower. It needs to be said, don't douche into your grey tank - toilet only!
Bedding. Some rentals don't come with it - and it's going to be CHILLY. Be prepared - this includes pillows!
Tenters need to be aware of how cold it can get, or how unpredictable the weather can be. Two years ago it went from 80 to 65 in about 30 minutes during the day, and it made for some chilly nights. And yet, last year, rain was predicted the entire weekend - but it didn't rain until Sunday night. Also keep in mind that there is no electricity. RVs will have generator power (when it's on), you'll want to ask RVers if you can use it to charge any batteries or devices. Remember to never enter someone's RV without express permission. Definitely be prepared to have enough battery power to keep your phone alive.
Jason Kinkaid will have an improved charging station for phones at the registration canopy this year. It'll be available when it's charged and when people are around (evenings and mornings - but not when everyone is at the festival).
We don't have spare tents, so make sure yours is in good shape before coming.
Sleeping Bag. It can get cold!
Battery or chemical warmer for sleeping bag. This is optional, but recommended. Heating up a cold sleeping bag isn't fun.
Good stakes for the tent. Make sure your stakes are in good shape, and that you have enough for the tent and rain fly.
Lighting. The night is cold and full of terrors and so is your tent! Flashlight is good, something to hang from the top of your tent is good too!
